Modern earrings
using vintage components II

This pair of beads is just to the right of front and center in the first photo of the sample strand page featured at the beginning of the week, and as you can see is distinguished by one of the beads incorporating a commercially manufactured millifiore. This part of the design comes from my very first lampworking teacher, Peggy Prielozny, who liked to incorporate millifiore into her larger-size dichro-core filigrana hearts. (I never really have managed to do much with millifiore, despite trying.)

earrings featuring vintage abstracts (effetre, thompson enamels, millifiore, frits, trailing, gold leaf); sterling, bali silver, jun 2023. Photography: sony ILCE-7C, sony 90mm macro, f/7.1, ev -0.3, 1/60s, ISO 50, godox flash; cropped and slightly lightened in gimp, 16jul2023.

Funerals, so it's said, are for the living; and I certainly treasured the pieces handed down to me from various relatives no longer with us. Originally, I meant to make beads to match but having providentially (re)discovered the sample strand on my hood[1] I thought it would be even better just to use beads from the same era—though perhaps not as well made as a modern bead might be, the fact that they're over 20 years old makes them absolutely irreplaceable and special, besides of course being the same vintage as the necklace they're to match.

another view, same parameters.

[1](Once again filthy with dust I'm happy to report not from a project of mine;)
