Pennsic War Scrimshaw
Um, crouching tiger versus hidden dragon?

Obviously, I liked the film:)

I don't recall who suggested this subject matter; quite possibly it might have been R.C.F., who introduced me to the SCA in general and the Pennsic War in particular; or it might have been my scrimshandering teacher, Deb Orvis of Time Traveling Traders, who taught me the technique at Pennsic. The latter's site was broken when I wrote this, and the former doesn't have one, but both, so far as I know, still sell amber at the War. In any event the Middle Kingdom is represented by a dragon, and the East by a tiger.

(The Pennsic War is an annual event in which the loser has to take Pittsburgh, as I recall. It's been a looong time.)

Lampblack on elephant Ivory. This is a big piece, perhaps as much as 2 inches in diameter.

Though I styled the piece so as to balance the contestants, you can probably tell by the placement of the sig, as well as the fact that the dragon was larger (not to mention originally meant to be on top) I was a member of the Middle Kingdom:)
