My friend Cindi's request for white flower photographs proved an excellent assignment for learning to use my camera—open-ended enough to give me plenty of room for interpretation, with plenty of possible subjects, built-in white balance check (took me forever to figure that out), and a genre I enjoy (flowers) without being too immediately frustrating (like, say, glass beads, with their tendency to hot spots, reflections, etc.
I never would've bothered with so plebeian a flower without Cindi's request. I really like the way the colors and dew came out. I even like the noise, which to me is just the modern version of graininess. Not to mention discovering aspects of the ‘hidden world’, such as the little tan bug I didn't discover till I looked at the image full size.
