Snowbiking,
in Michigan's Winter Wonderland...

The thing about riding a bike in six inches or more of snow, such as we had today, is getting adequate traction. The tungsten studded bike tires (nokkia if you care) we use are great for dealing with icy patches, but studs don't really stop tires from spinning in all that snow when you push down to get the bike going. I had a lot of difficulty with spinning wheels, and the adage when you're driving in deep snow not to stop for anything is even truer for bikes.

the wizard snowbikes.

Even so I kind of enjoyed this exercise, for the first block or so. I think I managed to ride about 4 blocks before knocking the stem into my pubic bone one too many times. —Never got around to posting this after it was taken, but now, with the first ‘christmas postcard’ snow of the 05/06 season, it seems appropriate to dig this pic out of storage.

Happy Winter everyone, even though it won't officially be for another 12 days.
