setting up for a new disk braid, 11feb23:
- 16 strands of #5 perl cut approx 12-1/4’
- Just barely fits on the bobbins. spent about an hour warping them while traveling to an old friend's house;
- then braided off and on that eve., (during the party)
- approx 4–6 inch total.
Had to look up kongoh, was originally thinking broken diamonds, except I have no idea how to keiruko no himo on the disk, & had forgotten I only do kongo on disk. Whoops! —Regular diamonds are a pattern that can be done with the kongoh structure, but I didn't set up the colourway for that.

22mar23: while waiting around at dr's office, tried changing the pattern. Made a single (1/2 a pair/alternating light/dark) stripe, still ugly. Switched to blocks of 4/4/4/4 of dark/light blocks resulting in 2-band spiralling stripe—much better!
I was in Japan from roughly mid-April to mid-May, which is when I did the bulk of this braid.
finished! 27apr2024 Approximately 84.5" long, not including tassels, of which the first pattern is 11".
In between I managed to step on or otherwise get the beginning of the braid very dirty, so I tried washing it with dish detergent, which was...more or less successful.
You can see the original pattern very clearly in these photos.
completed braid, 29apr2024, sony ILCE-7C, 90mm sony macro lens, ISO 50, 1/60s, ev -0.3, godox manual flash; cropped in gimp.
Then it took me another six months, very nearly to the day, to sight the braid hanging up (i.e. find it) & measure the length. Whew! What fuss for something so ugly: yeah, this was one of those that looked good as individual hanks, but just wasn't when braided. C'est la vie.
