N.b. in progress! (yup, for over 2 years and counting...)
The threads for this braid were selected, cut, and documented 10nov23:
perl cotton 8,
- Deanna #323 med light brown;
- DMC medium light(er) brown, 642;
- valdani perl cotton #8, P10 (dull violets and browns)
Because I was (vainly) hoping the colour banding of the ombre cotton would line up, instead of folding over/doubling the yarn ends, I cut and moved the yarn end to end. (And miscounted the number I needed.)
The weird spider effect is because the ends aren't tied/attached...It was a bit easier to wind the bobbins loose, but mounting them on disk with the origin ends loose proved to be a pain, so I'd call this little experiment a failure, or at least something that needs more thought.
I started winding the bobbins on the way to rolling/kayak practise, which my notes show were on the 10th, 13th, and 17th. On the 13th, I discovered I'd only cut 6 strands of the ombre yarns, necessitating the need to cut two more. At that point I had no idea which way the asymmetrical colour pattern was already on the wound tama, and wasn't about to unwind them to find out (I loathe winding tama, especially the plastic ones for disk kumi). Was pretty sure the yarn was too erratically dyed for the patterns to line up anyway. On the 17th finally finished winding the last two strands, knotted up the loose ends, and concluded it wasn't really that much easier to do loose tama, instead of folded over (which must therefore immediately be put on the disk as they're wound.)
Despite the frustration getting this thing ready to go, the colourway looks to be successful, in a subtle way, if the first inch or so is anything to go by. I sure like it better than that coral mess that's in progress on my other small disk.
