My rationalization for featuring this set of chicken scratches is because it's the only example, as far as I know, of doing the henna inspo style doodling in graphite, (in the lower left) and I kinda wanted to preserve it as something perhaps to explore in the future.[1] Up till now, this sort of doodling, given its henna origins (and also some other inking doodles) has featured very crisp, hard line; but does it actually need to be that way? After all, I do these doodles in water colour too, where they're still hard edged, but not opaque. Now what about a soft edged line...?
graphite and ink on Japanese appointment diary, pages measure roughly 5.5 X 8.25" some, but not all, probably drawn 29jul20. /2020LX100/20200818LX; cropped, adjusted.
Also I need to learn better how to draw upturned faces (this has been on my to do list for at least 20–30 years). I kind like that I'm starting to play with floral hair.
[1]If you ever wondered how artists get ideas, they, or at least I, often make things that mostly failures but might have a kernel worth exploring.
