I've alluded to a callig souvenir set from Italy in prior posts; this is the (bottom half of the) box in which it arrived.
collaged box interior, 07oct24. vintage and modern newspapers, tissue paper, paper lace, wrapping paper, envelope & other ephemera, some doodled, glue, approx 3 x 10.5 x 1". photographed 11oct24 Sony A7c, sony 90mm macro lens, f/2.8, 1/125s, ISO 100, ev +1.3, WB shade; cropped, value adjusted, scaled in gimp.
The box was decently made, and very much in the proportions ideal for necklaces, but the liner paper in bottom half of the box was damaged when I ripped out a cardboard insert designed to hold the nibholder in place, so I decided to collage it.
Since the exterior of the box was a very deep blue, to start I selected some privacy-printed envelope interiors printed in blue, as well as a doodle made in blue pen made on an envelope to apply for an absentee ballot. (Vote, people!)
Then I added some nicely browned[1] vintage newspapers from 75 years or ago, some more modern Japanese newsprint (including one with some nice dark blue background), some tissue and wrapping paper printed in aqua, plus of course the piece de resistance, a reproduction of a Hokusai print that was part of an exhibition advertisment f2tY kindly brought from Japan for just this purpose, and the addition of the silver photograph corners, I was really happy with vintage vibe it evoked.
Still to come is collaging the top of the box lid, which has residue from the sticker I removed to cover over.
