Dragon
with swirling wings.

This is the second of the January 2006 boro animal sculptures, and the most successful so far—I just love the way the wings swirl and flutter. The wizard liked it too, and it's gone off to work with him, so I don't have measurements, but it's roughly the same size as the wyvern.

Of course, the tail is rather clunky. But the proportions aren't too awful, and I actually ‘pulled out’ one of the forelegs—this is where you glob up the glass in a certain (usually somewhat lumpy) way, heat it, then pull, magically getting the shape you want, say a calf muscle in a lower leg, by manipulating the initial shape and heat base (cold glass is stiffer). It's tricky, because you have to visualize where the glass will go, but it's a popular method amongst sculptural lampworkers. Lucio Bubacco, said to be the most gifted sculptural lampworker in the world, is a master at it.

Other side, for completeness. Weird the way the angle can totally change the look of a thing. It's almost indecipherable—so much for my composition skills...
