Wonky Buttons
for a frankenstein coat

I have a fan capable of moving 1180 cubic feet a minute through my hood: it requires the equivalent of 2 16x20” openings to provide adequate fresh air intake. Those air intakes are positioned directly behind me, which means in the wintertime, my studio is cold.

So I typically wear 3–4 layers of wool and silk, topped off by a ankle-length vest made out of old wool sweaters that have become too small from being washed (because I'm too cheap to dry clean them). This patchwork object is incredibly ugly, because I don't know enough about piecing or patterns to make even a simple vest on my own; and this is the second pair of ‘double buttons’ which will be linked together and used to help hold this thing shut as I wander around.

two buttons, roughly 34mm in diameter. Soda lime glass, feb? 2006. As you can see, the buttons are indeed wonky and misshapen, and therefore should be right at home on my equally misshapen garment.

These buttons have metal shanks, so they're a test to see if this sort of shank holds up over time. Since one is already working loose, the approach is not as promising as I'd hoped. Fortunately, there's something called epoxy, heh, heh, heh...
