the various and sundry creations of sylvus tarn
Siberian Squill
beautiful in blue

I just love the rich deep blue of these spring ephemerals, and in these pictures, attempt to capture that. I did try playing, a bit, with levels, because of blown (blue, especially) highlights, but just didn't like those results, so these are basically as is.

crop 1: 10apr23, approx 08:45, sony ILCE-7C, sony 90mm macro, f/3.2 ev -0.7, 1/250s, ISO 100, WB: daylight

Below, a different crop of the same image—I really couldn't decide which I liked best. I like the white spot in the middle of the image, presumably a specular highlight glinting off a dewdrop, sort of a pseudo-moon;)

crop 2 of the same image, 10apr23, approx 08:45, sony ILCE-7C, sony 90mm macro, f/3.2 ev -0.7, 1/250s, ISO 100, WB: daylight

As I noted in the intro a gardening friend (who worked in the industry) dissed these things as weeds, and all leaves laying flat everywhere after the flowers finish are indeed a bit of a pest until they too yellow and disappear; still worth it.
