My brother was not too impressed with the first stockings Grandma had given us, so he demanded something less girly, and my mother obliged with this martial theme. He remains interested in military history today, so she made a good choice.

The loop was originally on the other side, but has been reversed in repair.

Despite claiming to have little artistic talent, she sewed clothes, silk-screen christmas cards, upholstered chairs and made this stocking, which I consider to be strongly designed and nicely executed. (I recall her telling me that she didn't want to mess about with sewing individual sequins, so she got the ones in a chain.)
