the various and sundry creations of sylvus tarn
Mermaid,
or, sea-theme continues.

If one family member is an avid sailor, then I considered myself fantastically fortunate that his spouse loves mermaids—what could be a more perfect pairing?

I just love these multicolored threads in the name, but I don't know that this is perfectly successful, though you can see I tried to tie it into the rest of the piece, especially the mermaid's girdle area.

I've always been rather irritated by Dizzy's copping out with the shells on the boobs, not to mention Ariel's impossible thinness (though I love the much more upbeat ending to the story than the traditional version, and Eric's clever defeat of the sea witch). So this mermaid is a shaped a little more like a real woman (at least on the top half...)

This image shows the sea under the flap.

Note also the orange fish, also featured on the beach stocking.
