Today's doodles, made on scrap paper, are not really finished objects in and of themselves, but objects to be incorporated in future projects. However, the wizard liked the first one so much that I just gave it to him.
drawing on scrap, rollerball and ball point pens, 16jul20. Roughly 3.5x6" The hearts are a throwback to doodles I made in college. Clicking will give you a (somewhat) sharper image—at least in the middle:)
Strictly speaking the drawing is made not only with ball point pen ink, but some roller ball (the black) as well. —I'm hardly the only artist to appreciate the thick, oleaginous quality of ball point pens, which have the downside of drying somewhat slowly (& therefore smearing.)
Despite being left-handed, the smearing never bothered me unduly, and the upside is that ink has a soft-edged quality akin to graphite. At five or six years of age, 2 or 4B pencils were still years in the future, and I didn't appreciate the pale lines pencil made available; I was so thrilled when I received my first pen, a favour at a birthday party, and it was, of course, ball point ink.
So that might be another reason, residual fondness. In any event, despite its fugitive qualities, I still enjoy ball point pens with nice dark ink, like these. That red!
Plus, it just has a nice feel going over the paper:)
