I went over to a friend's house to do yoga and/or make seitan together and afterwards we chatted, during which time I made this Frances-inspired sketch.
Sketchbook: watercolour, technical pen (ink), markers, white-writing pen. 5-7/8 x 8-1/4inches, 22mar20; photography (lumix lx100 & gimp editing, 19may20)
Let's just pretend I actually do know how to do perspective[1] Oranges have a marvelous pebbled texture on their skins, which can be highly reflective with raking light. I tried to capture this with the white-pen that Frances gave me, but it was too aggressive.
So, since I believe this is the first time I combined the representational still life (in watercolour) and the abstract doodles (in marker) I suspect I combined the two to reduce the impact of the highlighting on the oranges. The doodling helps to draw the eye away from that failure (not to mention the wretched bowl) towards the strongest part of the drawing, the bananas..
(The orange marks came about because part of the page was exposed when making another drawing. But I'll get to that. )
[1]In my defense we ate some of the bananas, revealing the upper/rear edge of the bowl, and my efforts to cope with the change in the still life didn't go at all well.
